I’m a writer at heart. I’ve had the good fortune while operating New Climate to take on more public writing assignments than I have since my days at the CBC. And I’ve loved them. I love the mix of logic and art that go into writing – I love the feedback when people are touched by something I’ve tried hard to convey. And when it’s all about building a better, saner, more equitable, greener world – well, it’s one of my favourite crafts. Getting paid to write is pretty cool too.
See the “Pages” box at right for samples of my sustainability-related writing for Business In Vancouver newspaper, Shared Vision magazine, and various BC Hydro newsletters. For radio, see below.

It makes me chuckle that years after my life as a news reporter at CBC Radio, I’m still broadcasting via the net. In 1994, when GMO foods were just appearing on the consumer horizon, I did a story about the “Flav’r Sav’r Tomato” – a new consumer curiosity. The story can still be heard at the CBC archives page.

Just read the “Greening human nature” piece in BIV and thought it was great. Rees call for us all to “exercise our capacity for moral judgement and compassion for other human beings” is a view that needs to be shared. I couldn’t agree more that sustainability (and survival) depend on this type of thinking.
Your article has me thinking about what kind of concrete actions need to be taken by individuals, organizations and communities so we can bring this smarter, moral and compassionate lens to our personal and professional decisions. Thanks for getting me thinking.

Thanks for your comment! I was really interested in what Bill Rees said, and happy to share it. You’re right – it takes some thinking. Which, of course, is one of those great things we humans are supposed to harness and do more (better) of!
